Discolored Water Due to Increased Seasonal Demand
Central Arkansas Water continues to receive calls about discolored water in the system, and we are working to resolve the issue by flushing water lines in the identified areas.
As the days get hotter and seasonal demands increase, the need to produce and distribute more water throughout the system also increases. This increase in water flow can lead to the scouring of iron and manganese, which are naturally occurring minerals, from the inner walls of the pipes. The increase in iron and manganese is what causes the discoloration.
The water is still safe to drink. If you notice discoloration, please run the water through your cold-water line at your faucet for a few minutes. This typically resolves the issue. Also, if you are seeing discoloration, do not wash your clothes until it clears.
Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this issue.
